The methylsulfonylethoxycarbonyl (Msc) group is presented as a non-lipophilic, base-labile, participating protecting group for carbohydrate alcohols. It can be introduced using Msc-Cl and pyridine and is readily cleaved via β-elimination under mild basic conditions. Its fluorous counterpart, the perfluorooctyl propylsulfonylethoxycarbonyl (FPsc) group, is used in a ‘light fluorous’ trisaccharide synthesis sequence.  相似文献

Glycosidation of conformationally unrestricted mannuronate ester donors proceeds in a highly β-selective fashion, whereas condensations of mannuronate ester donors, which are conformationally constrained by a 3,4-butanedimethylacetal or a 2,3-isopropylidene function, provide α-selective products. We hypothesize that the difference in stereochemical outcome of these condensations results from the different conformations of the product forming oxacarbenium intermediate. The formation of the β-linked products from the flexible mannuronates is thought to originate from the most favorable 3H4 oxacarbenium ion, which is not accessible from the conformationally restrained donors. Although an α-triflate intermediate is formed upon activation of the 3,4-butanedimethylacetal protected mannuronate ester thio donor, this is not the product forming intermediate. The anomeric triflate serves as a reservoir for the 4H3 oxacarbenium ion, which is glycosidated to provide the α-linked mannuronates.  相似文献

Turbulent-flow chromatography (TFC) on-line coupled to liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) is used to determine flavonoids and resveratrol in different types of wines. A fully automated system was developed in which 10 mL of sample (diluted wine) was passed over a TFC column, after which the retained analytes were separated by reversed-phase LC and detected by negative ion mode atmospheric-pressure chemical ionization (APCI) MS. The method proved to be fast, non-laborious, robust and sensitive. The feasibility of the method was tested on several red, white and rose wines. Quantitation of resveratrol was possible using the standard addition procedure. Red wine showed the highest amount of resveratrol (4 mg L−1), while rose and white wine contained concentrations which were about ten fold lower.

A novel model system for studying the behavior of hard colloidal rods is presented, consisting of sterically stabilized particles of natural sepiolite clay. Electron microscopy and scattering results confirmed that the organophilic clay particles were individual, rigid rods when dispersed in organic solvents. With a length-to-diameter ratio of approximately 27, the particles showed nematic ordering for volume fractions phi > 0.06. Polarizing microscopy revealed that the phase separation process involved nucleation, growth, and coalescence of nematic domains. The phase volumes and particle concentrations in the coexisting phases were determined. The dependence of these quantities on the total concentration of the suspension agrees well with Onsager's [Ann. N. Y. Acad. Sci. 51, 627 (1949)] isotropic-nematic phase transition theory extended to bidisperse and polydisperse rod systems, and with previous experimental results for rigid rodlike particles. Particle size distributions were obtained by analyzing transmission electron microscopy images. A significant fractionation with respect to rod length (but not diameter) was observed in the coexisting isotropic and nematic phases. The relative polydispersity of both daughter phases was distinctly smaller than that of the parent suspension. The phase behavior of these daughter fractions agrees well with the predictions for hard spherocylinders of corresponding aspect ratios. An isotropic-nematic-nematic phase equilibrium was seen to develop in phase separated samples after 1 month standing and is ascribed to the effect of polydispersity and possibly gravity. The second nematic phase appearing is dominated by very long rods.  相似文献

Sterically stabilized silica nanoparticles were synthesized, and turbidity measurements confirmed that they behaved as hard spheres in cyclohexane. Poly(isoprene) was added to give mixtures in the protein limit with a polymer coil/colloid radius ratio of 4.8. Their phase behavior under good solvent conditions was studied experimentally. The critical colloid volume fraction was phi = 0.13, whereas recent simulations (Bolhuis, P. G.; Meijer, E. J.; Louis, A. A. Phys. Rev. Lett. 2003, 90, 068304) predicted phi = 0.24. This difference is ascribed to the fact that many systems showing good solvent scaling behavior of the polymer still have a Flory-Huggins parameter close to 0.5, for instance, chi = 0.45 in this work.  相似文献

Montmorillonite clay was treated with quaternary ammonium surfactants with 1-3 long chains of 10-18 carbons to form organoclays which can be suspended in non-aqueous solvents. The effects of surfactant chain length, number of long chains, and the properties of the solvent on the colloidal behavior of the surfactant coated clay plates were studied using small-angle X-ray scattering. The scattering data were modeled using a one-dimensional aggregation theory to describe the stacking of the clay plates. The plates self-organize into stacks with a reproducible basal spacing in the range of 30-50 A, and for each surfactant, the basal spacing falls into one of two preferred distances. We interpret this by considering that the surfactant layer on the clay has two strata, one being the polar near-clay headgroup region and the other the nonpolar alkane chain region. Polar solvents will swell the polar stratum preferentially while nonpolar solvents will swell the nonpolar stratum of the surfactant. As the nonpolar stratum is larger than the polar one, the nonpolar solvents increase the basal spacing between the clay plates more than the polar solvents. The number of long chains on the surfactant does not have an effect on the basal spacing, as the density of surfactant molecules on the surface is low enough to allow the unimpeded swelling of the chains. The one-dimensional aggregation theory can be used to determine the number of plates in a stack, but the effect of changing clay particle size or concentration is not as great as would be expected from this theory. This may be due to the formation of large-scale structures in the suspensions which prevent a true equilibrium stack size being attained.  相似文献

We have synthesized a dendrimer (1) consisting of a 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (cyclam) core, appended with four benzyl substituents that carry, in the 3- and 5-positions, a dansyl amide derivative (of type 2), in which the amide hydrogen is replaced by a benzyl unit that carries an oligoethylene glycol chain in the 3- and 5-positions. All together, the dendrimer contains 16 potentially luminescent moieties (eight dansyl- and eight dimethoxybenzene-type units) and three distinct types of multivalent sites that, in principle, can be protonated or coordinated to metal ions (the cyclam nitrogen atoms, the amine moieties of the eight dansyl units, and the 16 oligoethylene glycol chains). We have studied the absorption and luminescence properties of 1, 2, and 3 in acetonitrile and the changes taking place upon titration with acid and a variety of divalent (Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Zn2+), and trivalent (Nd3+, Eu3+, Gd3+) metal ions as triflate and/or nitrate salts. The results obtained show that: 1) double protonation of the cyclam ring takes place before protonation of the dansyl units; 2) the oligoethylene glycol chains do not interfere with protonation of the cyclam core and the dansyl units in the ground state, but affect the luminescence of the protonated dansyl units; 3) the first equivalent of metal ion is coordinated by the cyclam core; 4) the interaction of the resulting cyclam complex with the appended dansyl units depends on the nature of the metal ion; 5) coordination of metal ions by the dansyl units follows at high metal-ion concentrations; 6) the effect of the metal ion depends on the nature of the counterion. This example demonstrates that dendrimers may exhibit complete functionality resulting from the integration of the specific properties of their component units.  相似文献

Reversible interparticle self-organization is reported for gold nanoparticles functionalized with an oligo(p-phenylene vinylene) moiety in butanol. The aggregates show a clear melting temperature at 80 degrees C, and atomic force microscopy and transmission electron microscopy indicate a fractal-like organization of the particles.  相似文献

In this paper we provide a connection between the geometrical properties of the attractor of a chaotic dynamical system and the distribution of extreme values. We show that the extremes of so-called physical observables are distributed according to the classical generalised Pareto distribution and derive explicit expressions for the scaling and the shape parameter. In particular, we derive that the shape parameter does not depend on the chosen observables, but only on the partial dimensions of the invariant measure on the stable, unstable, and neutral manifolds. The shape parameter is negative and is close to zero when high-dimensional systems are considered. This result agrees with what was derived recently using the generalized extreme value approach. Combining the results obtained using such physical observables and the properties of the extremes of distance observables, it is possible to derive estimates of the partial dimensions of the attractor along the stable and the unstable directions of the flow. Moreover, by writing the shape parameter in terms of moments of the extremes of the considered observable and by using linear response theory, we relate the sensitivity to perturbations of the shape parameter to the sensitivity of the moments, of the partial dimensions, and of the Kaplan–Yorke dimension of the attractor. Preliminary numerical investigations provide encouraging results on the applicability of the theory presented here. The results presented here do not apply for all combinations of Axiom A systems and observables, but the breakdown seems to be related to very special geometrical configurations.  相似文献
